LAKE OSWEGO AND TIGARD SECURE WATER PARTNERSHIP

Tigard, Oregon August 11, 2008-TVCTV cameras were in attendance as Lake Oswego and Tigard city officials celebrated their future water partnership at an August 6th signing ceremony held at the Fanno Creek House Courtyard in Tigard.

Tigard Mayor Craig Dirksen and Mayor Julie Hammerstad of Lake Oswego made the partnership official as they signed off on securing their future water needs in an agreement to build a water treatment system that will tap the Clackamas River beginning in 2016.

Under this new agreement Lake Oswego will retain its water rights to the Clackamas River as well as sell Tigard up to 14 million gallons of water daily. Tigard will also own part of the new water system with Lake Oswego.

Both Mayors spoke fondly of the agreement emphasizing how both cities met their future water needs in the most cost efficient and amicable way possible. Lake Oswego was in need of financial support to upgrade their current water system while Tigard's alternative option of tapping the Willamette or continuing to buy from the City of Portland would have cost more money.

The Tigard-Lake Oswego signing ceremony can be viewed on TVCTV Channel 28 throughout the month of August. For a complete playback schedule or for more information contact Mary Weisensee at 503-629-8534x101 or go to TVCTV's website at: www.tvctv.org.
