OREGON'S #1 LIBRARY CELEBRATES GRAND OPENINGTualatin, Oregon August 21, 2008- TVCTV was on location August 9th as Tualatin residents gathered at the entrance of the new and improved Public Library to celebrate its official grand opening. During the opening ceremony Mayor Lou Ogden applauded numerous city staff members, architects and builders for their remarkable diligence throughout the entire library rebuilding process. Thousands of books and materials were moved offsite to a temporary location as the old building was stripped down and rebuilt from the ground up. The new 9.1 million dollar library facility boasts beautiful natural lighting with dedicated teen and children areas, various designated reading spaces, an espresso bar and spacious community room. An 11,000-year-old mastodon is prominently on display along with seven pieces of regional artwork that was publicly commissioned by the city. Registered with the U.S. Green Building Council the library was specifically built with sustainable materials and maximum energy efficiency. Mayor Ogden dedicated the library to the citizens of Tualatin, "Who make libraries a priority, make a financial commitment and have confidence in their city staff to make this the number one library in the state recognized by the Oregon Library Association."
