COMMUNITY CLOSE-UP FOCUSES ON LOCAL PUBLIC WORKS PROJECTS & BALLOT MEASURES
October 10, 2008 Beaverton, OR -Washington County Senior Transportation Planner Blair Crumpacker and Senior Program Educator Anne Madden appeared on the September edition of Community Close-Up to discuss the current Transportation Fee (TIF) and the impact Washington County's proposed Transportation Development Tax or Measure 34-164 would have on developers and residents. Several aspects of Measure 34-164 are covered in the segment including why there is a need, how the tax is collected and what the county would do with the funds. Another segment of the September show featured Tualatin Mayor Lou Ogden, discussing the City's $49.4 million dollar general obligation Measure 34-152. If approved by voters the city would be authorized to sell bonds in order to improve parks and playgrounds city-wide, build a new community center, fund trails along natural areas and upgrade current school sports fields and parks. Also taped for the September edition of Community Close-Up were Jane Heisler and Joel Komarek, members of Lake Oswego's Sewer Interceptor (LOIS) Project Team. They elaborated on Lake Oswego's plan to replace the current Oswego Lake Interceptor Sewer lines. Replacement is necessary in order to correct the current deficiencies in both the capacity and structural soundness of the sewer line pile-supports. The new LOIS technology is explained in detail as well as the cost and duration of the project.
